Angie here: Welcome my guest, Eva Marie Everson, conference director, author, and speaker. We're going to chat about the upcoming Florida Christian Writers Conference. Feel free to pop in with a question and we'll do our best to get the answer.

Angie: Tell me about the Florida Christian Writers Conference-

Eva: Florida Christian Writers Conference has been around for--in 2013--26 years! This is my first year as Director, and praise God, I'm not doing it alone! Mark Hancock, who was a past president of Word Weavers International, Inc. (Volusia County) and is the VP of WWI, Inc., agreed to be a director with me. We're not Director and Co-Director, however. We're in this together!

FCWC is often referred to as the "conference that feels like home." We think so. It's held at the relaxing and lovely Lake Yale Baptist Conference Center in Lake Yale, Florida. The conference starts on Wednesday this year (in years past, it has begun on Thursday) with a few "early bird" specials, workshops, and classes. It concludes on Sunday. And, this year (unlike the past few years), we have brought back the awards banquet.

Angie: What makes it a "don't miss" event?

Eva: Girl, please! Go to www.FloridaCWC.net and look at the lineup of agents, editors, writers, and others we have managed to talk into coming to be a part of our illustrious faculty! We've also added a few things we always said we'd like to see if we were directors:

1) a massage therapist to not only take 15-minute appointments but to give a workshop on proper posture and stretching for writers, 

2) a tax expert to talk to us about what kind of tax issues writers need to know about, 

3) we have someone who will talk about book graphics, 

4) we have someone who will help our conferees set up the BEST website for themselves (they created our awesome website). In addition to this, we have Kim de Blecourt and Kathy Bruins coming in to give a 3-hour workshop on building proposals. Not only will they show conferees how, but when the conferee leaves the class, they'll have a proposal in hand, and another workshop on pitch that will give conferees what they need to pitch to the agents and editors. Finally, we will have a photographer on hand to take head shots for book proposals and promo materials. She will also take photos at the banquet when we're all cleaned and pressed. :)

Angie: How many people attend? 

Eva: Minus the faculty, I'm praying for no less than 150 conferees and I'll be over the moon with 200, seeing as we got such a late start. More than 200 and I'll just go ahead and fly to Mars! Without a rocket!

Angie: What budget should be planned?

Quilts of Love: New fiction line from Abingdon Press

I am so honored and excited to be part of this new fiction line from Abingdon Press. They've unveiled the line at the Giftmart in Atlanta this weekend. The above logo will be represent the line of books. Scroll down to see an actual Photo Memory Quilt made for my son's graduation by his grandma.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Beginning October 2012, Christian publisher Abingdon Press will launch a new series, the Quilts of Love, as part of their growing fiction line. Based on the idea that behind every heirloom quilt is a story of how it came to be, the Quilts of Love series will focus on the romance and adventures of the women who quilted a part of their family history.

Senior Acquisitions Editor Ramona Richards believes there is a strong connection between storytelling and quilts. “More than a creative art, quilts have been passed from one generation to another as precious heirlooms. They tell our family history, and they have brought communities together,” notes Richards.

As a reflection of Abingdon’s diverse fiction line, the Quilts of Love series will feature contemporary and historical romances as well as women’s fiction and the occasional light mystery. The series will draw from some of Christian publishing’s best-known authors and new talent. Authors involved in the project include Sandra Bricker, Loree Lough, Christa Allan, Barbara Cameron, Lynette Sowell, Lisa Carter, and Angela Breidenbach.

Abingdon Press will release one book per month through March 2014 beginning with Carolyn Zane’s Storm’s Signal (Abingdon Press, October 2012). Richards says, “Each book in the series tells the story of one quilt, one family, and one unforgettable love.”

Montana author Angela Breidenbach’s book will be released April 2013. A Healing Heart is set in Bozeman, MT and tells the story Mara Keegan an uber-successful mother of three, widowed for three years. One year for every child. As she's making a photo memory quilt, a graduation present for her daughter, Mara experiences a heart attack. As Mara recuperates and learns how to heal her damaged heart, she also discovers how to release a bitter heart to God so she can love again. She's been chasing success and all the "good things in life" for her family to make up for the cruel whim God played on them by taking her husband. When released home, Mara visits the choices she's made that led her to this physically and spiritually broken heart. The memory quilt must be finished in time for Cadence Keegan’s big day, but Mara struggles with her burgeoning feelings for the man who must keep Mara's business going during her recovery, Joel Ryan. Can Joel find his way into Mara's healing heart and onto Cadence’s quilt?

My Book Studio Edition II review

I have to tell you how much I really am enjoying the security of my new WD My Book Studio Edition II dual-drive storage system.  It's a special external hard drive for creative professionals. With my well over 3,000 photos, large website, blogs, articles, books, and book cover designs I needed something much more than the memory on my Macbook laptop.

WD (Western Digital) to the rescue! It took me only a few minutes to get it loaded and set up. Because of what I do, I need it to protect and back up my work often. It stores and protects without my noticing the activity. I can barely even hear it working! I love, love, love this back up/storage/hard drive.

The firewire works seemlessly (though there are other options) and I can find anything on my external hard drive as simply as if it's on my laptop. Wonderful product!! Just had to share. If there were a star system to use on this it would get 5 out of 5!

My version is very compact and has a tiny footprint on my desk. It's about 6"X6"X4" and can hold the memory of my laptop so many times I lost count! My design software can store on it and not slow down my laptop. Happy, happy day! (A slow laptop costs me money as time ticks away from me.)

I've had the pleasure and benefit of attending the Colorado Christian Writers Conference run by Marlene Bagnull. It blessed my life in ways that are still unfolding. She has put together another one on the East coast and I urge you to attend! Here's the information:
