Joining Good Causes

At one of the many Jadyn Fred Foundation fundraisers. My husband and I support this organization regularly with our time, talents, and when possible our funds too. We believe parents and children need to be able to afford to not only get to medical treatments but also have a parent with them. The enormous costs not covered by insurance often drive parents to extremes. We have heard of parents that have to choose between staying with a child in the hospital or losing the job that helps pay for the medical care. The Jadyn Fred Foundation helps families pay for expenses not covered by insurance.

For Mike and I, that means a mommy and daddy don't have to sleep in the car because they can't pay for a motel or leave a baby behind and go to work, or even choose between groceries and medicine. We have been called to be a part of this ministry. As long as we understand the call to continue, we will spend our time supporting this cause.

But what about ALL those other causes? Aren't they good? Don't we need to support good causes?

A relevant topic for people in this world. As a writer/speaker who needs to be continuously creating a platform, I'm on a lot of social networks and places I can be genuine while getting my name and work out in the big wide world.

But this brings up a subject that is a bit scary for everyone. That's the issue of all the causes in the world. For one person, they are overwhelming. Too much.

As the publicity officer for American Christian Fiction Writers, I get tons of causes sent to me. I have to choose what is right for this position that I do for ACFW. It's being aware of the opportunity to share ACFW, not support every other cause on earth. I have a specific job and function. That goes for being a woman who is a wife, mother, grandmother, business owner, and in ministry. I have specific duties in my life and a way of life to maintain that is balanced and healthy for me and my family.

So I'd like to suggest that God placed you all in your position as well. If the cause, network, or other situation is one that allows you to be genuinely who you are, do what you do, and you feel called by the Lord to join--then do.

But just because a cause, invitation, group, social network, or other opportunity is good-even great, doesn't mean it is your calling or responsibility to be a part of it.

Think about the uniqueness God created in you. Honor that uniqueness as a writer and/or individual living out God's plan for your life. You don't have to be in or support every cause out there. God created someone to be called to it already. You just have to be obedient to be in and support the cause God made you for.

Be uniquely you, write or work uniquely from your perspective, and join those things God lays on your heart only.

Randy asked: Why did you want to be Mrs. Montana or Mrs. International?

Angie: This was an easy one :-) I think the Mrs. International pageant gives women a voice and the ability to reach out and leave a legacy with their work and the things we believe in. I want to help people discover the gems of wisdom from their experiences and turn around to use them as building blocks and gifts for others. I use my gems of wisdom to write, speak and support children's causes around the world through Hope's Promise and the Jadyn Fred Foundation. That's why I wrote my book and started life coaching (you can find more about that at MyGemofWisdom.com. In the process, I commissioned a line of jewelry that helps support two of Hope's Promise Orphan Homes in Kenya. So it was a natural charity to include in my life. My slogan is Personal Growth = Powerful Living!

Rosy asked: How can we help?

Angie: There are several ways to help depending on your own heart's leading.
There is a special fundraiser right now that the Mrs. International Pageant is involved with specifically for the American Heart Association. Since my mother passed away from congestive heart failure and my dad has had a quadruple by-pass, I feel the research and life style guidance the AHA provides is essential. Please visit the Mrs. International Contestant page and scroll down to Mrs. Montana to vote for me. It doesn't sway who wins the title, but it does help the American Heart Association continue their work while it also helps me continue my work for the charities I represent. Thank you if this is also a passion for your heart. A fun aside, there are 5 questions each contestant answers. So you have the opportunity to get to know the ladies before the pageant. I like this unique aspect!

Another way to help is by donating toward the financial needs of the Hope's Promise Orphan Ministries. You can donate online and it is very simple. I urge you to take a look at the website and get familiar with the international organization. Pray about it and consider how you might touch a life and leave your own legacy.

One very simple and fun way to help is how you shop for presents! Marshall is a musical talent from Spokane, WA that adds a different flavor to the coffee shop scene. Marshall was the winner of the Gibson Guitar New Musician Award of 2006! Come listen to a great concert while giving to children with cancer.

Making a difference one life at a time

Eat with Monte, the Griz Mascot

Here's your chance to have pancakes with Monte, the Griz mascot!

Last year as Mrs. Missoula, I had the honor of being kissed by Monte and sprayed with whip cream! Totally silly and fun.

The annual pancake breakfast is sponsored by Paul's Pancake Parlor and the proceeds go to the Jadyn Fred Foundation.

The Jadyn Fred Foundation assists Montana (and some surrounding states) children and their families get help toward expenses that insurance doesn't cover. For example, insurance may cover treatment at a hospital but not the hotel or groceries for extended stays. Some families have even needed gas money to get to the hospital. It's amazing how draining a long term illness can be on a family.

The Jadyn Fred Foundation supports those needs and families through a three tier system. You can check out the website and see how many kids are getting helped through this great program that was started to honor a little girl named Jadyn. It's a genuinely loving organization that I feel is so important. Often the family cannot afford to stay with the child. That means a little one has to be in a hospital without the support of their family. And yes, this does happen because mom and dad are so busy trying to keep the family going while paying out more and more money to keep their child healthy or alive. No one wants to leave their child in the hospital all alone. Sometimes it is a choice of that and living in a car. Some families do that too in order to stay by their child.

This is where the Jadyn Fred Foundation comes in. They intervene by giving the funds needed to provide a bed, food and gas so mom and dad can be there as much as possible.

So you don't have a ton to give? Don't worry about it. Just go have some breakfast Saturday, Feb. 21st, at Paul's Pancake Parlor in Missoula.

But what if you had a tiny bit extra? There will be fun drawings for Griz Gear, autographed basketballs from both the men's and women's Griz teams and even beautiful Griz watches donated by a local jeweler. The tiny bit? A whole $2 for a raffle ticket.

So plan for a nice Saturday out and enjoy being a part of something bigger than ourselves. Something that reaches out to help the children who really need some of the simplest things like gas/groceries and their mom and dad during intense medical treatments.

And if you see me around town, I'll have raffle tickets available. You don't have to be present to win all those fun Griz things or the $300 Griz basket from Dillard's. So if your schedule allows, pancakes galore. If it doesn't, you can still holler for some raffle tickets and I'll run them over to you so we can help more kids and their families.
