Angels by Dr. David Jeremiah

Angie's Take: I think what I've liked most is the way Dr. David Jeremiah presents this material. It's very organized and logical. Too often, it seems, angel books are all about emotion and the feel good factor. This one is about reality versus fictional wishes. It's much more encouraging than believing in angels as if they are another version of Santa Claus.

I've just finished the section on being guided through biblical history with different views on the angels. The guide shares that we should watch the angels hands and then shows how their hands focus on touching us for tasks as strengthening, encouragement, and nourishment. Along the way, the guide in Angels takes us back and goes through history again with our eyes only on the messages, and again, only on their warrior position in heaven. I loved how he broke out those elements and helped me understand what angels really do and what their purpose really is.

I've never fallen for the cherubic child angel or the pretty tree topper version. But I didn't focus on the reality either. I let angels sit out there in space somewhere, not dealing with what I understood or didn't understand about them. Now I comprehend the purpose God has given to angels (though I'm sure this book is not comprehensive because God is not done with all of us yet so His angels may have other jobs we don't even know about.) But I think the most important thing about this book at this time is busting down the misunderstandings about God's creation and use of angels. I highly recommend Angels: Who They Are and How They Help in your own study of the bible. As Dr. Jeremiah points out, angels were created by God and are not to be worshiped. They carry out a mission for God, from God, to us and for us.

Summary:
What are angels? What is their role in God’s plan? Are they present? Do they appear? Do they give us personal insight about our work, our worship?

Many contemporary beliefs about angels are based on misconception and myth. Dr. David Jeremiah uses scripture to unveil the remarkable truth about these agents of heaven, and their role and work in our world—and lives.

More than 60,000 units of this powerful book have sold in two past editions. This repackage of the original 1996 paperback will surely capture the attention of readers of all ages who seek a broad and thorough survey of scripture that clearly separates fact from fiction as it relates to angels. The book will appeal to the thousands who follow Dr. Jeremiah’s books, and radio and TV broadcasts.

Relevant, little known biblical facts help readers sharpen their knowledge and sensitivities toward the spiritual reality of angels. Dr. Jeremiah’s enlightening findings are supported with illustrations and insights from Billy Graham, Corrie ten Boom, C.S. Lewis, and more.

I've always thought of angels as servants of God - and we are capable of so much more than they.

I am using this book in my study. I really like thinking about the concepts and how Dr. Jeremiah writes with common sense. It's not his opinions, he's backed it up with scripture.
